Experience an evening of gripping drama and virtuoso musicality: under the direction of Anna Rakitina, the festival orchestra presents two masterful works by Dmitri Shostakovich together with the outstanding cellist Gautier Capuçon.

The concert begins with the 2nd Concerto for Cello and Orchestra op. 126, a late work by the composer, which is characterized by an impressive mixture of lyrical moments and powerful virtuosity. With his extraordinary playing, Gautier Capuçon lends this work an emotional depth that perfectly emphasizes the complexity of the composition.

After the interval, Shostakovich's probably best-known and most impressive symphony awaits you: the 5th Symphony in D minor op. 47. Composed in 1937 and marked by the censorship of the Stalin regime, this work carries both a message of personal resistance and universal tragedy. The 5th Symphony moves between dramatic climaxes and tonal restraint and remains one of the most intense and emotional works in music history.
