Schostakowitsch Festival - Gewandhausorchester & Andris Nelsons

A highlight of the Shostakovich Festival 2025: under the direction of Andris Nelsons, the Gewandhaus Orchestra presents an impressive concert evening together with the gentlemen of the MDR Radio Choir, the Leipzig Opera Choir and the Gewandhaus Choir.

The concert opens with the Passacaglia from "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk", played in a haunting organ arrangement by Michael Schönheit. This is followed by the 2nd Violin Concerto in C sharp minor op. 129 with Baiba Skride, who brings the emotional depths of the work to life with great intensity.

After the interval, the program includes the harrowing **13th Symphony in B flat minor op. 113 ("Babi Jar") ** - a musical confrontation with the Holocaust. Günther Groissböck lends the work an impressive presence as solo bass, supported by the male choir and the organ.

A concert that gives you goose bumps - artistically brilliant and deeply moving. An unforgettable evening full of musical power and historical depth.
