The Geneva Camerata presents a unique encounter between the world of Krump - a hip-hop dance style that originated in the suburbs of Los Angeles - and one of the greatest masterpieces in music history, Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony. The musicians of the orchestra simultaneously become part of the dance choreography developed by director and choreographer Kader Attou and choreographer Grichka to the haunting music. Based on the rhythmic intensity of Shostakovich's Fifth and the virtuosity of four dancers, the performance uses the body movement of the Krump as an expression of self-liberation and symbolizes revolt and the fight against brutality. The result is a moving Gesamtkunstwerk that invites us to look at various current social issues such as tolerance, courage and freedom from a new perspective.
