Scorpions

No band with German roots is more successful than them: The Scorpions. Over 120 million records sold, sold-out shows from Hanover to New York, gigantic festival appearances such as at the "Rock in Rio" festival and, of course, "Wind of Change" - the best-selling single by a German band that is part of the soundtrack to German history. In 2025, the band from Hanover celebrates its 60th anniversary and invites its fans to a stadium concert in its home city. And they are not celebrating alone! The British heavy metal band Judas Priest will also be there.

Rudolf Schenker founded the Scorpions in 1965 and remembers: "I know this so well because my mother kept a cash book and wrote down how much money my father lent us for the band. So for petrol, instruments, music systems," he says. "One day I found my mother's old cash book and she started recording our debts for the first time in December 1965." And he continues: "My mother was very correct. My father, on the other hand, was pretty cool, he always said: 'Boys, don't worry about it. Always do what you enjoy, the money will come by itself."

That was all sixty years ago now and what followed is - as they say - history. The debts in the cash book were followed by great success and one of the most spectacular careers in the music world, which conquered the entire rock world from Lower Saxony.
