In the organizer's words:

"Sent me your e-mail again" - this is one official response to a distress call at sea. While minutes decide lives, tactics reign at sea as they do in politics. With "see not rescue - Mayday on the Mediterranean", the KAMARA THEATER is bringing a stirring theater production to the Kulturhaus Schwanen on October 25 that is based on documentary material - and does not remain silent.

Based on original documents, radio transcripts and specially conducted interviews, the evening tells of the structures, decisions and obstacles that shape Europe's approach to refugees and distress at sea. The focus is on the voices of people who survived. Their stories, supplemented by testimonials from captains and doctors, make visible what is otherwise suppressed: the political dimension of dying in the Mediterranean.

Three actors - including the Syrian actor Hayan Amer, who fled himself in 2015 - provide a narrative condensation of reality. The multi-award-winning jazz trombonist Conny Bauer accompanies the evening live and brings a second, emotional level into play with his sound. Directed by Christof Küster, the result is an intense evening of theater that takes a stance and moves the audience without ever lapsing into pathos.
