After the unexpected death of her closest friend and mentor Walter, New York writer Iris is immediately faced with another surprise: not only does she inherit his literary work, she is also expected to look after his beloved Great Dane Apollo. Not an easy task, as the oversized four-legged friend not only turns Iris' tranquil apartment upside down, but also her professional and private life. But as reluctant as she is to take Apollo in at first, an intimate bond soon develops between the two mourners - and together the unlikely pair embark on a tentative journey of mutual acceptance and healing.
