In the organizer's words:
The band INSWINGTIEF (Sabrina Damiani, Stefan Degner, Thomas Buffy, Felix Leitner) will be hosting three free workshops (see below for topics) on 1.12.2024 from 14:00 in the basement Z87 and in "Raum17". The workshops are aimed at beginning musicians (amateurs as well as professional musicians) and interested concert listeners. Funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts and the Bavarian Music Council.
Based on the session tunes "Bossa Dorado", "Swing 42" and "Out of Nowhere", we will work on various aspects and then perform the pieces together at the session!
Planned schedule:
14:00: Arrival, coffee & small talk, allocation to the rooms
14:30-16:00 Workshops Part I
- Guitar: Tips, tricks and licks for improvising on jazz standards (with Stefan Degner)
An "optical" improvisation concept will be presented and deepened on the basis of fingering patterns. The aim is to improvise on the basis of already known and applied guitar fingerings in a swing and jazz style. prerequisite: confident accompaniment of the suggested tunes... - Violin: Melody instruments - "how to play melody" "how to improvise" (with Thomas Buffy)
How do several melody instruments work in a session context? Which scales and arpeggios to play and where? Which licks and which "vocabulary" should you know and can you play? - Rhythm section - The engine room of the band (with Sabrina Damiani & Felix Leitner)
This workshop is dedicated to the important ability to accompany songs in a tasteful, constant and stable way and thus provide your band with a solid foundation in every situation. Admittedly, this doesn't sound particularly glamorous at first, but for a good overall sound it really can't be rated highly enough. In jazz manouche, a powerful rhythm is simply indispensable as a basis. The workshop is aimed at guitarists and bassists who see themselves as team players, want to improve their accompaniment techniques and are ready to courageously face their old nemesis, the metronome. Using three sample tunes, we will work together to develop and practise elementary concepts of the role of a rhythm section, as well as techniques such as the "pompe manouche" characteristic of the style, or strategies for stable double bass accompaniment even at higher tempos. We will discuss ideas on how to consciously use the metronome to improve your own timing as well as that of the whole band and work on the interactive rhythmic interplay between guitar and bass.
16:30-17:45 Workshops Part II - see Part I above for content
18:00-19:00 Pizza break & talk - The opportunity for exchange with other interested parties.
19:00-21:30 Session with the opener band "Les Ducs de la Pompe " from Bonn
Afterwards, we will put the new knowledge to the test on the session stage and we are sure that you will immediately experience your first "aha moments" and be able to record your first successes.
