30 years of the Beijing World Conference on Women: Focus on sexualized war violence

In 1995, a decisive milestone for women's rights was set at the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing: the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Even then, the focus was on combating sexualized violence in armed conflicts.

30 years later, sexualized violence in war is still a bitter reality for many women and girls in war and crisis zones. We are taking the anniversary of the conference and the upcoming International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict as an opportunity to focus on the ongoing explosive nature of this issue.

At the event, experts will talk about the structural causes of violence, political and social challenges and existing approaches to protecting and supporting those affected. Voices of women's rights activists from Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Democratic Republic of Congo will also contribute international perspectives.
