The new exhibition Shadowily in different tongues at the ifa Gallery in Stuttgart brings together artists and local communities who are resisting social and political processes that are driving the earth and its inhabitants to the brink of exhaustion. These voices from different regions are speaking out against the exploitation of nature and people - such as destructive mining activities, the poisoning and waste of water - actions that change and destroy habitats. They stand up for a plurality of languages and ways of life.
The participating artists and communities develop counter-designs that tie in with local memories. They create spaces for action and show how we connect with our bodies and our environment to everything that surrounds us: through movement, language, storytelling, passing on knowledge and eating together.
By observing, recording, recombining and speculating, the artists create visual worlds, knowledge and forms of testimony. They renew memories and shape futures that are strengthened by community. The practices, which unite "shadowy in different languages", appeal to solidarity and justice as ways of connecting with each other and celebrating other forms of living together.
