In the organizer's words:

The shanty choir takes you out to sea. With a mix of traditional and maritime Christmas songs, the men's choir sails far out to sea.

The shanties are celebrating their 45th anniversary this year; the choir was founded in 1980 by members of the Lütgendortmund and Oespel-Kley naval comradeship. With currently around 40 active singers and eight musicians (three accordions, a guitar, a bass guitar, drums and a percussion group), the choir is now one of the largest shanty choirs in the country. Under the direction of Lukas Blume, the youngest shanty choir director in Germany, the shanties are sung in two to four voices - and of course with powerful solo voices.
