After the successful debut of SHE JAZZ in 2024, there will be a new edition in 2025. Together with Bergedorf jazz pianist and singer ADA BRODIE, LOLA presents young female jazz musicians who make it clear that jazz is far from dead and that the future can also be female here - not just emotionally on the voice, but also intellectually on the instrument.
The young award-winning saxophonist JULIA LANGENBUCHLER, for example, makes this clear. She has already played with her projects at many important jazz festivals, such as the Leverkusen Jazz Days, where she was a finalist in the 2021 FUTURE SOUNDS competition for young talent. Together with double bassist Katrin Bethge and singer Mai Linh Dang, she merges improvisation and composition as the trio SEILTANZEN. The chamber music line-up gives the musicians the space to use all the sound facets of the voice and instruments through extended playing techniques. The compositions of pianist and singer FRANZIS LATING evoke memories of the era of cinematic silent films and at the same time make a strong statement about the present. Her preference for romantic music can be heard in the pieces, as can the influences of black soul and modern jazz.
The final chord? A joint performance by all five musicians - and a strong political message.
This special evening will be hosted by musician, songwriter and radio presenter AGATA PAULINA CLASEN.
