SHOCKHEADED PETER
Junk opera based on motifs from "Der Struwwelpeter" by Heinrich Hoffmann
A musical by The Tiger Lillies, Julian Crouch and Phelim McDermott
Music by Martyn Jacques
Shaggy hair, long fingernails, a sad look - the image of "Struwwelpeter" is universally known and universally frowned upon. While the book of the same name by doctor Heinrich Hoffmann was an (inter)national bestseller when it was written in 1845, today it is more of a symbol of authoritarian education. High time to turn the tables: Struwwelpeter and his famous fellow sufferers such as fidgety Philipp, Paulinchen with the lighter and Soup Kaspar are rebelling and retelling their stories - regardless of adult obedience. And who better to celebrate rebellion against authority than the British rock band The Tiger Lillies? In their junk opera "Shockheaded Peter", they provide the appropriate musical-circus superstructure with grotesque characters and quirky humor.
The acting ensemble dives into a world of scurrility and anarchy together with the audience. A celebration of the colorful, the loud and the wild, staged by Milena Paulovics and accompanied by a powerful live band.
