Monday, January 13: Award-winning films from the 18th Cologne Short Film Festival 2024
On this evening we present the award-winning works of the 18th Cologne Short Film Festival (KFFK) from last November. Among others, "Detours While Speaking Of Monsters" by Deniz Şimşek will be shown, a film that uses the heart of a defeated monster at the bottom of the sea as a symbol for oppressed and displaced peoples. With abstract landscape images and fragmentary dialogs, it makes collective trauma tangible.
Also on show is "Ignore Your True Feelings at Your Own Peril" by Miranda Siegel, which shows the relentless journey of a protagonist through mental illness. With reduced means and a humorous montage, the film creates a touching portrayal of mental suffering.
With "Tako Tsubo" by Fanny Sorgo and Eva Pedroza, an animated short film is dedicated to the question of whether a life without pain and complicated feelings is possible. A thought-provoking narrative about existential themes unfolds in a poetic visual language.
Finally, "A Study of Empathy" by Hilke Rönnfeldt is a sensitive and critical examination of empathy in the art world. The protagonist Dana is confronted for an art project and has to deal with her own reactions.
Location: Filmhaus Köln, Maybachstraße 111, 50670 Cologne
