by still hungry and Bryony Kimmings
What happens to acrobats when they get older and the applause for them dies down? When they are mercilessly weeded out? For women in particular, the magical circus world turns out to be an uncompromising entertainment industry. Accordingly, the Berlin collective still hungry takes an unsparing look at this world that has shaped them for so long: at strict discipline, dizzying successes, unbearable prejudices, fierce competition, but also at the cohesion among each other. "Show Pony" is a very personal journey through the highs and lows of three stage biographies. The artists dissect past and future dreams with humor and disarming honesty. They continue to master the straps, vertical rope and contortion impressively and yet they are not "one trick ponies": with emotional depth, "Show Pony" tells us everything about the circus, both in front of and behind the scenes. A joyful shout in the face of patriarchy that challenges social prejudices about age and femininity, on and off stage.
