Simon Popp Trio

When the Munich-based Simon Popp Trio takes to the stage, it is a visual event in itself. The percussion formation around Simon Popp with Sebastian Wolfgruber and Flurin Mück works with the whole variety of percussion instruments from the cultures of the world, including the ballafon and the udu from Africa, the Arabic darbuka, cowbells, bongos or bundles of dried seed pods. The natural sounds of these exotic instruments are gently manipulated and sampled with electronic effects. The results are hypnotizing soundscapes, danceable and meditative at the same time, earthy and airy sounds between jazz, pop and world music, presented with a fine sense of timing and mood.
