Tastes are different. While the pianist Nikolai Rubinstein initially considered Tchaikovsky's concerto to be worthless and unplayable, the renowned conductor Hans von Bülow found the work 'ravishing in every respect'.

In 1913, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris became the scene of one of the biggest scandals in music history. The program included the world premiere of 'Sacre' choreographed by Vaslav Nijinsky. Something so archaic and at the same time so rhythmically complex had never been heard before. 'People laughed, jeered, whistled, imitated animal voices,' Cocteau recalled. The tumult in the hall eventually degenerated into a melee.
