"A good murder, a real murder, a beautiful murder. As beautiful as one can ask for". Femicidal plots such as Büchner's Woyzek end with the tears of the perpetrator. These and other canonized tales of protagonists who have no choice but to kill their lover/wife/daughter/wife in the face of tragic circumstances influence our ideas of so-called "relationship crimes" that take place every third day in German households and thus romanticize murders for base motives: Jealousy, abuse of power, lack of impulse control and toxic masculinity. In the performance "Sirens cunt be silenced", Jaunich and Escribano provide the young, beautiful dead woman with a confident counterpart. It is not Ophelia who rises from the water, but her man-killing sisters in spirit, the dreaded sirens. By skillfully playing with familiar narratives, the two dancers manage to reinterpret, rewrite, reverse and reclaim the power of interpretation. Because they know: there is no such thing as a beautiful murder.
