An Iranian-Israeli musical affair - concert at KESSELHAUS

The Berlin-based Israeli and Iranian musicians SISTANAGILA seek dialog with their project. They make use of folkloristic and religious melodies from klezmer, Sephardic and traditional Persian music as well as modern and classical compositions. The different melodies and motifs, rearranged with influences ranging from flamenco and jazz to progressive metal, merge into music that creates something completely new and builds a bridge between two worlds.

The special guest is Maria - one of the best-known contemporary singers from Iran. Trained in classical Persian singing, she made a career in Iran as a pop and rock singer. When her musical activities became more serious, she was forced to leave the country due to the ban on the female voice in Iran. Three years after leaving the country, she decided to go into self-imposed exile, as she came under increasing pressure due to the publication of works critical of the regime and interviews with opposition media abroad. She suppressed her longing for her homeland and her family in order to make her voice heard as an artist in the free world. "As part of the Women, Life, Freedom movement, she has become one of the most well-known voices of the movement abroad through her numerous protest songs and her tireless commitment to protest actions.
