They fly through the air and defy gravity, they compete in trick contests and race over the course of ramps and rails in countless laps: skaters. Legend has it that skateboarding was born in Los Angeles when low waves forced surfers onto the asphalt one day. Since then, it has developed into its own subculture with its own choreographies.

The Danish choreographer Mette Ingvartsen, herself a skater in her youth, was fascinated by this urban culture and its movements. Ingvartsen looked for participants in the Brussels scene and formed an ensemble of skaters and dancers, who are now joined by some members of the Hanover scene. Together they transform the DHC hall into a skate park.

The performance shows a sociotope that is characterized as much by competition as by solidarity and tolerance. In addition to virtuoso tricks, Skatepark also shows a community whose members tirelessly try out, fail and constantly test the limits of what is possible. But we also see them chilling out, laughing, listening to music and dancing together. "The performance breathes energy and freedom", stated the Dutch magazine theaterkrant.
