Sofia und Juri Andruchowytsch - ein Gedankenaustausch

In the organizer's words:

What does it mean and how is it possible to write literature in times of war? Is writing during war necessarily writing about war, against war - or perhaps above all: writing with war? Escapism, reflection, admonition, therapy? How do you find a language, how does literary speech change? What expectations do authors find themselves confronted with? And what do they have to say? Yuri Andrukhovych and his daughter Sofia Andrukhovych are among the most influential and Europe-wide present voices in contemporary Ukrainian literature. Yuri Andrukhovych's novel "Radio Night" (2022) and Sofia Andrukhovych's three-part epic "Amadoka" (2023/2024) were recently published in German translation. Yuri was already a guest at asphalt last year and gave a nationally acclaimed speech about his multi-award-winning novel "Moscoviada" and Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. We are delighted that he is returning this year together with his daughter Sofia to engage in a dialog about writing in times of war and to read from their latest works, which have been written since 2022 and have not yet been published in Germany. The event will be moderated by Slavicist Prof. Dr. Gun-Britt Kohler.
