Sommerfestival der Kulturen

In the organizer's words:

The first Summer Festival of Cultures took place in the summer of 2001 - back then on a smaller scale in the courtyard of the Altes Waisenhaus. What has developed in recent years from the festival organized by the Forum der Kulturen Stuttgart e. V. is a success story that is unparalleled throughout Germany: every year, around 80,000 people celebrate together on Stuttgart's market square.

For six days, people dance, party, eat and drink in Stuttgart. Stars from the international world music scene inspire with rousing concerts of various genres from griot to indie rock, ska and Balkan beats to cumbia, rumba, flamenco and much more - with Free admission. Culinary delicacies from all over the world and a diverse cultural programme will be provided by Stuttgart's (post-)migrant organizations and initiatives. There will also be a varied program for children on all six days of the festival as well as a colourful market of cultures that winds its way through the side streets of the market square.

The festival, under the patronage of Stuttgart's Lord Mayor Dr. Frank Nopper, is not only a cultural highlight in the city's festival offerings - it is also an emphatic and positive signal against racism and exclusion of any kind.
