In Barbieland, everything is in its place. The hairstyle fits, the clothes and every accessory match. In short: it's a perfect world, at least on the outside. If you want to live here, you have to adhere to the established norms without exception. This includes the stereotypical Barbie (Margot Robbie), one of the most influential Barbies in the country, who is adored by platinum blonde beau Ken (Ryan Gosling). But something hasn't been right lately, because Barbie keeps having thoughts of death. An absolute no-go in Barbieland, where every day should just be perfect. Her only hope is the strange Barbie (Kate McKinnon) who leads a hermit's existence outside Barbieland. She reveals to her that the source of her strange behavior is to be found in the real world and that she must track down the person who is playing with her. So Barbie and Ken set off together into the real world. But as soon as they arrive, they realize that different rules apply there than in Barbie Land. While Barbie faces up to the new challenges and comes into conflict with the law more than once, Ken discovers the patriarchy for himself...
