Life is full of opportunities for 17-year-old Elio, the son of an American professor who has set up camp as an art historian in Cremona. Elio spends his time with the village youth. His focus changes when Oliver arrives, an older student from the USA who will support Elio's father as his assistant. Elio is supposed to familiarize Oliver with the surroundings. Glances are exchanged, innuendos are made, innocuous touches have an electric tension that confuses Elio.
