A great movie with and about Banksy in the Summer Cinema Open Air as part of the Film & Art film series:
BANKSY - EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT STORE
GBR 2010 D: Banksy. D: Thierry Guetta, Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Space Invader. Feature film/mockumentary. 86 min. DF. FSK: 6
The film about (and by) Banksy from 2010 plays with the cryptic mindset of the legendary guerrilla street artist, who comments on world events between pop and politics, subversively mixes up the art market, sometimes shreds his works at auctions and is still not personally known today. The bizarre film story shows a French amateur filmmaker who is determined to make a film about Banksy and his graffiti art, without having any idea who Banksy actually is. However, his film is so amateurish that Banksy ends up taking on the project himself. Banksy cleverly plays with fundamental questions about reality in documentary film and the difference between art and staging - confusing, entertaining and wonderfully absurd.
