Program:
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor op. 25
Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 in E flat major op. 55 "Eroica"
After the celebrated Musikfest debut last year to mark its 25th anniversary, the signal that emanates from the work of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra is more relevant than ever: to enable the discourse of equal voices from the different cultures of the Middle East through the experience of making music together. Active mutual listening is essential when making music together. Communicating through music can build trust and break down barriers that seemed insurmountable. A message that the Chinese star pianist Lang Lang shares! Not only does he support children worldwide with the foundation he set up in 2008, he was also appointed UN Messenger of Peace in 2013. And he has enjoyed a musical partnership with Daniel Barenboim for more than 20 years. When the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra starts its summer tour in Bremen after stops in Berlin, Salzburg and Lucerne, it will perform Mendelssohn's colorful Piano Concerto No. 1 and Beethoven's groundbreaking, unprecedented "Eroica" Symphony, two works that once again make a statement for humanism with their universal musical language.
