The Kunstmuseum Stuttgart is showing Christian Marclay's celebrated 24-hour video installation for the first time in Germany. In 2011, "The Clock" was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale and has since inspired audiences all over the world.
For several years, Christian Marclay scoured film and television archives for scenes in which clocks are depicted or the time is announced. He captured every minute of every day in thousands of excerpts. The 24-hour montage is always synchronized with the time on location in the exhibition space, so that inner-film time and real time coincide. Our perception of time is put to the test and at the same time called into question by the rapid linking of different narrative strands.
In addition to another 24-hour presentation in May, "The Clock" will be open longer on two days - in the morning (7-10 am) and late at night (9-1 pm). Don't miss the opportunity to see sections of the film that run outside the museum's regular opening hours.
