War not only changes people - it changes the appearance of cities, drowns out the sounds of peaceful life and blurs the line between the home front and the front. These changes were recorded by the film crew of Songs of Slow Burning Earth. The result is this audiovisual diary - a chronicle of the changes that are slowly becoming commonplace.

For two years, the team recorded life at the front and in the hinterland, where the war sounds different but is always present. The film was shot in the style of an observational documentary: long static shots, the natural rhythm of life in wartime, minimal intervention by the authors. It combines landscapes, random conversations and encounters as well as sounds that appear and disappear in the frame.

"We started filming in the first days of the war. I realized that it was my duty to document what was happening to us. This is one of the 'letters' to the future that will hopefully arrive and be read, describes director Olha Zhurba... The film should encourage the viewer to feel and understand the threat that hovers not only over Ukraine, but over the whole world."

Війна змінює не лише людей - вона переписує рельєф міст, глушить звуки мирного житття, стирає межу між тилом і фронтом. Ці зміни фіксувала знімальна команда "Пісні землі, що повільно горить". Так народився цей аудіовізуальний щоденник - хроніка змін, що непомітно стають буденністю.

Протягом двох років команда фіксувала життя між передовою й тилом, де війна звучить по-різному, але завжди присутння. Фільм знятий у стилі обсерваційної документалістики - довгі статичні плани, природний ритм житття у воєнних умовах, мінімальне втручання авторів. Він поєднує пейзажі, випадкові розмови та зустрічі, а також звуки, що то з'являються, то зникають зкадру.

"Ми почали знімання з перших днів великої війни. Я усвідомлювала, що це мій обов'язок - документувати те, що з нами відбувається. Це один з "листів" у майбутнє, який, сподіваюсь, дійде й буде прочитаним, - описує фільм режисерка Ольга Журба... - Фільм створено так, щоб спонукати глядача відчувати та осмислювати загрозу, яка нависла не тільки над Україною, але й над усім світом".
