Songs of the Wayfarer

In the organizer's words:

In this new solo, Cunningham asks what does it mean to wander? To attempt to scale great heights? What can we learn from those of us who reach for the ground as four-legged creatures on crutches, from the choreography of crip* navigation and the maps we redraw? Of scale, time and energy? What it means to keep going and, importantly, the wisdom of knowing when to turn back.

Guided by her life experience as a disabled person, her memories of her training as a classical singer, her knowledge of the world of mountaineering and Gustav Mahler's "Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen", Claire Cunningham sets out to traverse landscapes known and unknown. Through the lens of crip*, Cunningham challenges us to pay closer attention to how we move through the physical world while experiencing profound loss and change in our lives.

*Crip is a political and cultural identity embraced by some disabled people.
