Sound-Intervention: Sascia Bailer, Soft Ice, Softboi, Soft Skills – Reflections on Softness and Care

In an audio contribution activated on the occasion of the exhibition soft intentions Sascia Bailer reflects on softness and care - inspired by her Soft Manifesto for Caring Infrastructures, which will also be on display. Visitors are invited to listen and leave their own thoughts on softness and care.

Sascia Bailer (she/you) lives in Freiburg im Breisgau. She is a researcher, author and curator who works at the intersection of care, gender and socially engaged art. She holds a PhD in curatorial practice from the Zurich University of the Arts and the University of Reading. As Artistic Director 2019 to 2020 of the M.1 Arthur Boskamp Foundation, she developed a participatory program on the topic of care. This research led to her book Caring Infrastructures: Transforming the Arts Through Feminist Curating (transcript, 2024). She is part of the collectives Mothers*, Warriors, and Poets and Field Narratives"

The exhibition soft intentions is about softness in all its facets: about soft, textile materials, but also about physicality, emotionality, vulnerability, emotional labor and care work. A soft experiment, a space for action guided by tenderness, closeness and attentive interaction. An invitation to explore the extent to which softness can also be resistant.

The exhibition builds on the artistic work We in the Cave by Cologne-based artist Sophia Schach in the cave. Wir in der Höhle is not only a walk-in installation, but also a stage for an extensive, interdisciplinary program with performances, workshops, concerts and reading sessions.

The exhibition is curated by Amelie Gappa as part of the 10th anniversary of the intersectional-feminist initiative And She Was Like: BÄM!
