In "Soundtrack Ost", Kathrin Aehnlich examines the role of music in the GDR and its influence on political and social life. The documentary sheds light on how music in the GDR was used both as a means of entertainment and as an instrument of control. Through interviews with musicians, music journalists and contemporary witnesses as well as historical footage, the film shows how music shaped people in the East and often served as a subtle form of resistance against the authoritarian regime. A fascinating look at the cultural history of the GDR.
