Soundtrips NRW - No. 73: Girilal Baars & Isabel Rößler
with Katharina Koenig & Florian Walter
The "Soundtrips NRW" series, which has been running for 15 years, is once again presenting many different facets of improvised music. In the first half of 2025, the focus will be on the human voice. Singer Girilal Baars explores the improvisational possibilities of the voice in dialog with Isabel Rößler on double bass. The vocal art is commented on, underpinned, overlaid and continued by double bass sounds. The specific nature of this exciting art form is continued in the usual Soundtrips NRW encounter with musicians from NRW. In the first part of a concert, the touring musicians play their own program. In the second half of the concert, they meet musicians from NRW. We cordially invite you to attend concerts in several cities, as no two concerts will be the same.
Girilal Baars is a singer, musician and composer living in Uppsala. With his art he tries to find ways to make the incomprehensible understandable - and vice versa.
Isabel Rößler is a jazz bassist and improviser living in Berlin.
Baars and Rößler first met in 2021 on the stage of the defunct club Au Topsi Pohl in Berlin. They quickly realized that they wanted to play together again.
Since then, they have performed in various line-ups in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and the Baltic States. The duo's first demo recording was released in October 2023. In their music, they engage in a profound improvisational dialog and walk paths through worlds they both discover as they create them.
