In the organizer's words:

WHAT IS RICE | WHAT IS A POTATO | WHAT IS A DUMPLING

For eleven days in July, the ifa-Galerie Stuttgart will be transformed into a kitchen - a meeting place where recipes, dishes and stories are exchanged. The program focuses on cooking evenings, where food is prepared, eaten and celebrated together. For the eleven-day program, ifa-Galerie Stuttgart invites individuals, groups, initiatives and associations to share a recipe and the stories associated with it and to prepare it together with guests. The evenings are accompanied by music and other contributions from the participants: inside.
The recipes that are cooked revolve around three ingredients that are central all over the world: Rice, potatoes and dumplings. What memories, what knowledge and what feeling of "being at home" are stored in dishes? What diasporic movements do people make and with them dishes and ingredients? How do they change in a new environment?

The program was initiated in conversation with the Filipino artist and curator Merv Espina, who is interested in the movement of ideas and dishes in his practice and research, through which counter-histories can be written and archives re-read. The concept for Spacedumpling was developed by Merv Espina, Bettina Korinten-berg, Gabriel Rossell Santillán and Siri Thiermann.

Detailed information on the program and dates can be found on the website of ifa-Galerie Stuttgart, ifa ~ Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen.

Spacedumpling is the first chapter of Agua Quemada (Burnt Water), a program of the ifa-Galerie Stuttgart, which forms the conceptual framework for the exhibitions and events for one year.Agua Quemada is a collaboration between the six curators Merv Espina, Oulimata Gueye, Paz Guevara, Bettina Korintenberg, Mauricio Marcín and Gabriel Rossell Santillán. It comprises four chapters that will unfold in different formats from July 2024 to summer 2025 and deal with themes such as diasporic movements, memory, resistance, regeneration and community, as well as anestral technologies and forms of knowledge.
The second chapter begins on August 2 with the exhibition The Conflictive and Contradictory, in which five young inter-national artists from colonial contexts explore the conflicts or bridges that arise when different realities collide.
