Späti: Return To Source. Listening Session mit Oscar Ngu Atanga

Oscar Ngu Atanga is a sound artist, curator and researcher whose listening sessions give new resonance to hidden and fragmented narratives and create alternative visions of the future. Deeply rooted in his Cameroonian heritage, he channels rhythmic and sonic traditions of his ancestors and creates immersive soundscapes with the spontaneity of an improvising instrumentalist.

Utilizing the vibratory and archival power of sound, Atanga transforms frequencies and communal experiences into rituals of introspection and exchange - a central element of his listening sessions. His music pieces, radio broadcasts, installations and performances blur the boundaries of perception and guide the audience through meditative sound spaces, characterized by Afro-Diasporic polyrhythms and experimental dub.

Atanga initially established himself in the Berlin club scene and performed in renowned venues such as Tresor. He had a residency at Kwia, a listening bar and space for sonic experimentation, and performed internationally at Corsica Studios and Colour Factory (London) as well as other venues. His work has since evolved beyond the club context to include experimental performances, sound installations and listening sessions in cultural institutions such as Arroz Estudios (Lisbon), Galerie Wedding and Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin). His approach to ambient and experimental sounds was also presented in a collaborative performance at the CTM Festival.

His ongoing interest as an artist is to engage with pan-African ideas, textile craft, and cultural innovation. He explores themes such as design, sustainability and restitution.
