After an argument, Max breaks away and sets course for the horizon in a small boat. After days at sea and a menacingly staged landing in the surf, Max sets foot on an island where a handful of exotic creatures live. His fearlessness towards these creatures, which only appear dangerous on the outside but are actually rather gentle, childishly bored or sad, and his anger, which explodes into destructiveness, make Max the friend of the leader Carol - a fluffy giant who, like Max, cannot restrain his aggressive impulses but also has creativity in him.
