After two acclaimed albums and sold-out shows, British band Sports Team are one of the most exciting live acts of the moment - and they will be proving this once again on German stages in the fall of 2025. With "Boys These Days", Sports Team present a record that underlines their firm place in the great English songwriting tradition and at the same time breaks new sonic ground. Two years of intensive studio work instead of touring stress has led the Mercury Prize-nominated band to a new creative peak. The result: an album full of hedonistic energy, biting social observations and catchy melodies. The songs are characterized by the eccentric maximalism of British greats such as Roxy Music, Prefab Sprout, World Party and XTC - and yet everything here sounds unmistakably like Sports Team. Tracks like "I'm In Love (Subaru)" celebrate naive romanticism with a wink and are a musical declaration of love to the feeling of the asphalt glowing beneath you. At the same time, the irony of modern life resonates in every line - in a world where love has become a tax write-off and the moon is just a strip mine in the sky. Lyricist Robert Knaggs and singer Alex Rice dissect the 21st century with poignancy and humor: From sparkling sports cars to everyday celebrity life to the built-in expiration date of modern consumer goods - the album is full of clever breaks and razor-sharp contrasts. The whole thing is wrapped up in hyper-real pop, carried by the band's unyielding energy: rousing hooks, blistering guitar riffs, bar piano, synthesizers and a rhythm duo that never stands still for a second. The new work was recorded in January 2024 in Bergen, Norway - under the direction of Matthias Tellez (Girl in Red, CMAT) - where death metal is usually at home. The result is the brightest album in Sports Team's history to date. With the switch from Island Records to Distiller Records, a new era begins for the band - in the USA they remain with Bright Antenna. After their meteoric rise - from London backrooms to the stage of the 5000 capacity Brixton Academy in less than a year - Sports Team now return to bring the new energy of Boys These Days live to the stage.
