Nuremberg State Philharmonic Orchestra / Elena Bashkirova / Nabil Shehata
Matinée on Maundy Thursday
The Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg is the second largest opera and concert orchestra in Bavaria and is one of the top orchestras in Europe. The history of this traditional orchestra began almost 650 years ago. Now the Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg is celebrating its debut in the Elbphilharmonie's Great Hall under the direction of the eminent conductor Nabil Shehata.
Nabil Shehata won first prize and the audience prize at the ARD Music Competition as a double bass player at a very early age and was principal double bass with the Berliner Philharmoniker from 2004 to 2008. He later began to devote himself to conducting and was chief conductor of the Philharmonie Südwestfalen. On his path as a conductor, he was accompanied by maestro Daniel Barenboim, among others, whose assistant Nabil Shehata was at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin.
The solo highlight of the matinée on Maundy Thursday is the outstanding pianist Elena Bashkirova, who regularly performs with renowned orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Elena Bashkirova is the founder and artistic director of the prestigious Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival. In the Elbphilharmonie, the impressive soloist will present the popular piano concerto by Robert Schumann. The matinée on Maundy Thursday will conclude with Ludwig van Beethoven's rousing Symphony No. 2.
