Armaments factories such as HASAG are still the face of Nazi forced labor in Leipzig today - but forced laborers were also present and highly visible in the heart of the city. The district tour will present aspects of National Socialist forced labor using a few selected locations in the city center. What was everyday life like for forced laborers? What was the administrative system that organized this? And how were the forced laborers perceived by the German population?
The tour will cover a wide range of topics, but will mainly focus on forced labor in the public sector, including former camps in the city center, places where forced laborers worked and the role of the city of Leipzig.
Meeting point: 11:00 a.m. on Augustusplatz, in front of the entrance to the university (duration approx. 1½ hours)
