Book launch & reading with participating authors
STAMINA is a series of publications by and with teenagers and young adults. Most of them came to Germany between 2021 and 2024 as refugees. They catch up on their school-leaving qualifications and learn German - from 08:00 to 15:00. After that, they often have to go to the authorities. Red Bull & Co. in their luggage and uncertainty about their residence status.
What stories do we tell? Which narratives are repeated, which are overlooked? Storytelling means a change of perspective. Poetic writing - whether as a two-liner or WhatsApp memo - is a form of messaging. Individual stories disappear in headlines about flight. STAMINA counters this: voices that tell stories.
STAMINA has been established in Cologne for five years. The texts are more than just documents - they convey what it means to arrive in Germany. Over 90 participants from different countries have already written 700 texts. A selection will be presented on 11.04.2025.
In the workshops, which last several months, the participants write in their native language. The texts are then translated into German. This creates exchange and trust. The publication makes their experiences visible and tangible. Writing is empowering - and the printed book is a sign of recognition and pride.
