State of Affairs

We are contacting you because we need your help to ensure the stability and prosperity of future human civilization.

In other words, the shit is hitting the fan! And we need you to make at least some change to the inevitable."

With this message, the future civilization makes contact with a present-day drama production. The contacted troupe is rehearsing the play "State of Affairs", which, as none of today's actors can foresee, will have a major (negative!) impact on future generations, on the whole of humanity and on planet Earth. In order to prevent the catastrophe after all, a new piece is teleported, but unfortunately it could not be transmitted in its entirety. And probably not in the right order.

What begins like this is great fun about interpersonal entanglements, private and collegial sensitivities and the serious question of the responsibility of art in times of crisis and war. A look at the present and future paradoxes of our coexistence!

The Israeli director and author Yael Ronen lives in Tel Aviv and Berlin and has been working in German-speaking theater for over 15 years. Her award-winning productions often take a humorous and provocative look at historical and contemporary conflicts. "Slippery Slope. Almost a Musical", invited to the 2022 Theatertreffen, was shown at the Lessingtage 2023. Like Ronen's first work at the Thalia Theater "(R)Evolution. A Guide to Survival in the 21st Century" - inspired by Israeli science star Yuval Noah Harari - "State of Affairs" will also confront current and popular hypotheses about the human species, take them further and perhaps reduce them to absurdity.
