Singing creates feelings of happiness, it acts like a natural antidepressant, reduces stress and prolongs life. Singing in a choir promotes a sense of community - and the joy of music. When you sing, you are one with your body. But what is so special and incomparable about singing in a choir? With the verve of a curious narrator, Stefan Moster explores the world of choirs in his knowledgeable and entertaining book and makes surprising discoveries in the past and present: whether Stefan Moster's grandfather is serenaded by 100 singers for his birthday, the Red Army choir sways - in a very unorthodox and relaxed way - in the Rudi Carell Show, fans in soccer stadiums cheer on their team in the choir, Arvo Pärt politicizes the choral song - either way, singing moves.

In the "Year of the Voice 2025", presenter and choir singer Angela Leinen explores the "happiness of singing in a choir" in conversation with the author. The text reading and conversation will be accompanied by choral pieces from the Bonn Vocal Ensemble. Last but not least, the audience is also invited to actively participate in several sing-along pieces.

Stefan Moster, born in Mainz in 1964, is a literary translator and writer living in Berlin and Porvoo, Finland. He grew up in a family where, as he says himself, "you couldn't escape choral singing". Recorder, guitar, oboe and piano were part of his basic musical training. He wrote the libretto for the opera Galen. "Der Kardinal" by Thorsten Schmid-Kapfenburg (premiere May 2022 in Münster), two of his novels are about music: "Die Unmöglichkeit des vierhändigen Spiels" (2009) and "Bin das noch ich" (2023), "a novel that appeals not only to musicians' hearts" (hr2 Kultur).
