This book is probably the most personal book by bestselling author Stephan Orth.

Through his girlfriend Julija, he experiences Ukraine more directly, more closely and from a very private perspective. Stephan Orth travels several thousand kilometers across the country - in April 2023, he begins his journey by night train to Kyiv. He stays overnight - via the couchsurfing portal - with people in cities, on the coast, in war zones, in the countryside and on the edge of the Carpathians.

He not only directs our attention to destruction and suffering, but we also experience lovable, creative, hospitable, humorous, courageous and hopeful people who have an open door for Stephan Orth, show him their everyday lives, share their fears and hardships and show him the country up close.
With his girlfriend Julija, the author attends opera and theater performances in Kyiv, an absurd experience for him, and accompanies the hiking guide Roman on his hiking tours and weekend trips in the Carpathians - a welcome change for war-weary cities.
