STERNENSTAUB. Das Resident Music Collective spielt Musik zwischen Leben und Tod

In the organizer's words:

What is the fundamental sound of the universe? What does stardust sound like? This is what the Resident Music Collective has been exploring. Inspired by the immersive exhibition un_endlich. Living with Death, which was on display at the Humboldt Forum until November 26, 2023, 15 artists from different musical cultures are exploring the themes of the exhibition using instruments ranging from the Turkish ney to the West African balafon.

In all cultures around the world, music can trigger and intensify emotions, alleviate pain, accompany rituals and express the metaphysical. Palliative therapist Lydia Röder lets the audience experience an instrument up close, the vibrations of which she uses to accompany the dying in their final hours: the body tambura. The musical objects of Argentinian sound artist Edgardo Rudnitzky play without any assistance - the violin swing, the candle zither and many more. West African balafonist Aly Keïta sends rhythms of hope to the audience, while musical director Clemens Rynkowski conjures them up on the touchless theremin.

The audience can move freely during the concert and be moved by the sounds of the Ukrainian melodies of jazz singer Ganna Gryniva or the grooves of the vibraphone and feather-string drum. Those who have immersed themselves in the deepest tones of the double bass and double bass clarinet will then be accompanied to new peaks by the alphorn.

The Resident Music Collective, founded in summer 2021 for the opening of the Humboldt Forum by musicians from Berlin's diverse urban society, always invites you on a journey of discovery with music beyond tradition.
