By Isobel McArthur, based on the novel by Jane Austen - 12+
Actually, everything could be fine in Jane Austen's masterpiece: Mr. and Mrs. Bennet have five more or less well-bred, healthy daughters, an estate and enough money for a carefree life. The problem: in Victorian England, single women are not allowed to inherit - so the search for a suitable husband quickly becomes an existential matter for Elisabeth, Jane, Lydia and the others. Fortunately, the bachelor Mr. Bingley, who promises to be a good match, moves in a little further on. But unfortunately he doesn't seem to feel the urge to get married. And what about his somewhat uncouth friend Mr. Darcy, whose manners don't seem to match his bank balance at all?
Isobel McArthur brings out Jane Austen's ironic nuances with great wit and places the maids, who only appear in the margins of the novel, at the center. They play and sing their way through the stories of Pride and Prejudice in changing costumes and roles with a very contemporary and emancipated view, until the karaoke box runs out of juice and love finally wins out.
