Program:
Works from the current album "Street of Minarets" and others.
Dhafer Youssef, the Tunisian-born singer, composer and virtuoso on the Arabic short-necked lute oud, is open to all kinds of musical influences. He mixes oriental Sufi music with jazz, rock, electro, classical and Arabic music and crowns all these experimental sounds with his voice, which is highly variable over several octaves. On his latest album "Street of minarets", he also embarks on a musical journey between the Orient and the Occident, mixing Arabic folklore with funk and 1980s fusion. In doing so, he once again defies all labeling and stylistic classification, instead building a bridge between cultures. With his floating, almost mystical voice as a constant and his dexterous playing on the oud, he creates moments of seemingly magical spirituality and emotionality. These sound panoramas of fascinating beauty are sometimes melancholic and atmospherically floating, sometimes fiery and funky, but always highly sensual and poetic!
