Strictly Painting

The exhibition "Strictly Painting" shows two remarkable positions in painting. Johanna Silbermann's floral, mystical pictorial worlds meet Seungro Lee's old-masterly pictorial cosmos.

Palm trees, leaves, loops and ferns dance through Johanna Silbermann's magical pictorial spaces, difficult to decipher. A dreamy reality opens up, a surreal magic emerges. In this melancholy cosmos, people always remain distant; the foreign, the unknown reigns. A state of limbo prevails in the modern, futuristic and archaic constructions. Johanna Silbermann shows the beauty of painting in tristesse. Lonely, deserted and beautiful.

Johanna Silbermann's works are part of numerous collections, such as the Wurlitzer Pied A Terre Collection, the Aschenbrenner Collection, the Claassen Collection in Lüneburg and private collections, both nationally and internationally.

Seungro Lee was born in Seoul in 1991 and studied Fine Arts at the Kunsthochschule Münster. He graduated as a master student of Prof. Michael van Ofen in 2024.

His works combine abstraction with figuration. Scenes and situations are suggested with rough strokes, playfully painted and then deconstructed again. Seungro moves with his painterly cosmos in the immediate living environment, showing various serial works. The young, talented artist's wealth of variations constantly gives rise to new thematic directions, which he realizes with virtuosity. The shimmering painting technique is an outstanding characteristic of Seungro Lee, a special stroke, sometimes implied, sometimes abstract, results in a dynamic overall picture with old-masterly charm.

The Strictly Painting exhibition is open from April 30 to May 12. There will be a preview on April 30 and the opening on Friday, May 2 from 6-8 pm. There will be special opening hours for Berlin Gallery Weekend on Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 from 1-6 pm.
