She and he. Catherine and Jules. A couple who have reached old age. They have lived a whole life together. After marriage came the war, a ménage-à-trois with Jim was followed by togetherness. Love, trust, habit. Tea and potted plants in a rented apartment - including a blocked view from the window.
What if? How would life have turned out if you had made a different decision back then? Is there a duty to determine one's own fate?
The trio of actors is outstanding. Fiona Metscher, who is actually far too young for the role of Catherine, embodies her childlike naivety caused by the illness all the more credibly. She masters the changes between delusion and consciousness so brilliantly that even the audience can soon hardly tell them apart. (Die Rheinpfalz)
In "Piece of Heaven", Carsten Brandau continues Truffaut's story of the love triangle between Catherine, Jules and Jim - and expands it to include the existential questions that arise when old age begins to change people.
The production leaves the audience in the almost sold-out Theaterhaus G7 pensive and provides a gloomy glimpse into the future of our ageing society. As dark as a veil. Because Mr. Fog wants to get through the doors. (Mannheimer Morgen)
