SILENT FILMS BY HANS RICHTER WITH LIVE MUSIC ROLF SPRINGER & JAN TENGELER

The duo 'Ton Ab!' - Rolf Springer and Jan Tengeler - set short films from the 1920s and 30s to music, especially those by Hans Richter. The painter, graphic artist and co-founder of the Dada movement was a pioneer of experimental film. His works were only partially set to music and some scores have been lost. 'Ton Ab!' fills this gap with new compositions and improvisations: inspired by the abstract stories, Springer and Tengeler create soothing sounds that enter into an exciting dialog with the events on the screen. The duo's focus is on the changeability of the instrumentation: with guitar, double bass, didgeridoo, saxophone, oriental lute, percussion and accordion, the musicians constantly create new acoustic points of reference. They also perform swing numbers and songs from the Golden Twenties.
