As part of the recruitment agreement between the GDR and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, around 60,000 Vietnamese contract workers migrated to the GDR in the 1980s. Based on works by the artist Sung Tieu in the exhibition 1992, 2005, the guided tour Grey Zone: Vietnamese Realities after the Fall of theWall explores the profound impact of the fall of the Wall on the lives of these people. The political and social upheavals as well as racist structures and discrimination of that time influenced the identities, role models and social networks of the Vietnamese community in Germany and continue to shape them to this day.
