Sunita Sukhana will talk to Bagicha Singh Sukhana, her father and the protagonist of her book From India to Germany: What My Father's Journey Tells Us About Migration and the Kindness of Strangers, about Bagicha's unusual migration journey in 1979 - and how the world-historical events of this journey still shape our world today.

He is the son of a Sikh priest, a 400-meter runner and finally a migrant. In 1979, Bagicha Singh turned his back on his homeland and traveled the long, turbulent overland route from India to Germany with a (thick) head full of dreams. It is the year in which the Soviet Union invades Afghanistan and the Islamic Revolution rages in Iran. A year whose aftermath still shapes the world today.

More than 40 years later, his daughter recounts Bagicha's adventurous journey. The result is a touching text about origins, contemporary history and the importance of migration.

Sunita Sukhana grew up in Hesse in the 1990s with her Indian father and German mother. She studied political science and German literature in Passau and Tübingen. She published journalistic articles in the Frankfurter Rundschau, the Journal Frankfurt, the Three Rivers Commercial News and the Schwäbisches Tagblatt, among others, before finding her professional home in the publishing industry.

The author is accompanied by the book's protagonist, her father Bagicha Singh Sukhana.
