Sunrise for the sleepers • Boris Acket & HIIIT

In the organizer's words:

What does the sun sound like? With the help of highly sensitive radio telescopes, it is now possible to visualize vibrational fields on the surface of the sun and convert them into audible sounds.

This "sound of the sun" fascinates the Dutch artist Boris Acket, who repeatedly explores natural phenomena in his work. Together with the percussion ensemble HIIIT, Acket attempts to bring the sound and light of the sun into the baroque gallery. They transform the space into a walk-in body of light and sound. Two powerful light sources symbolize the sun and move in sync with the immersive sounds of the robot-controlled gongs. The result is a living soundscape that changes as we move around the space.

On the opening evening, played live by the musicians of the HIIIT ensemble, a large gong called a tamtam takes center stage. Its sound spectrum is enormously diverse and comes closest to the "sound of the sun". The American composer James Tenney has written a colossal "sound piece" for it. The enormous sounds of 'Having never written a note for percussion' will sweep through the gallery like audible solar storms. Afterwards, 'Apple Blossom' by US minimal music composer Peter Garland transforms the room into an acoustic starry sky with countless overtones and layers of sound. The opening concert on 28.05. ends with a huge crescendo of gongs and the rising of the sun.
